Animal Control Officer

About the role

Animal Control Officer – Grade 63: The position carries out the county's animal control program, primarily patrolling the county, responding to calls, and investigating complaints about unvaccinated, unwanted, dangerous, nuisance, and rabid animals (wildlife and domestic, large and small).

Responsibilities

• Exercise initiative to ensure animal owners comply with regulations.
• Use considerable tact when dealing with the public.
• Exercise independent judgment in deciding what action to take if animals cannot be readily captured.
• Work in indoor and outdoor environments, endure extreme temperatures, and handle rabid or vicious animals, exposing oneself to associated hazards.
• Be exposed to atmospheric conditions, noise, vibration, and other physical hazards.
• Be periodically on call to answer after‑hour calls and assist with shelter maintenance as needed.
• Serve as backup at the shelter, clean the facility, and help the public reclaim animals.
• Perform related duties as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Pass a criminal background check.
• Hold a valid driver’s license.
• Maintain good physical condition and be able to lift 100 pounds.

Pay

Hiring Rate: $38,914.
