Responsibilities
- Cleans animal cages and feeding equipment.
- Prepares basic animal food, feeds and waters animals according to established guidelines and schedules.
- Laboratory and Technology Management:
- Operates large cage washing machines, high pressure cleaner, floor scrubber machine, and wet/dry vacuum cleaner.
- Cleanses and sterilizes instruments with autoclave and chemical sterilant.
- Washes laundry and maintains equipment.
- Compliance:
- Maintains sanitation and disease prevention conditions.
- Prepares and autoclaves caging for special population animals.
- Procedural Assistance:
- Handles and restrains animals for research personnel.
- Transportation:
- Transports animals, bulk feed and bedding materials.
- Affords assistance with storing supplies which can include weekly large shipments of bedding and/or feed weighing up to 40lbs.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Two years of experience in animal care.
- Animal health technician with AALAS certification (preferred).
- Experience in Higher Education/Research Institute (preferred).
