About the Role
Performs standardized procedures associated with the operation of a laboratory animal facility under general supervision. Duties include animal care, sanitation, operations support, quality control, and technical assistance for a variety of animals, including nonhuman primates.
Responsibilities
- Understand and follow appropriate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) according to animal species.
- Feed and water animals according to schedules set by species and/or research protocol.
- Clean and sanitize cages, water bottles, racks, and animal rooms.
- Operate cage wash machines and autoclaves.
- Examine animals daily for signs of illness or reactions and report observations to an Animal Technician or Project Manager.
- Monitor and record humidity and temperature in assigned rooms daily, noting unusual sounds, odors, or ventilation changes.
- Perform all tasks in a way to minimize or prevent the transfer of infection.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Ability to handle laboratory animals, including nonhuman primates.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Bend, stoop, and stretch as required.
- Operate animal care equipment.
- Wear respiratory protection when necessary.
Qualifications
- Understanding of the English language, including basic veterinary medicine signs and symbols.
