Animal Care Technician III
About the role
We are looking for an experienced Animal Care Technician III for our Insourcing Solutions Team in Bethesda, MD.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, monitor, and document the health, breeding colony production, technical support, and physical environment within the customer's varied animal care environments.
- Maintains accurate records of animal breeding, health, weaning, identification, and housing/isolator or support areas as required by Institute and facility.
- Performs technical support to include but not limited to animal handling and restraint, weaning, tail snips, ear tagging. May assist with blood collection (retro-orbital sinus, tail vein, cardiac bleeds on mice, rats, and rabbits), tissue samples, perform injections (IP, IM, SG, IV) treatments.
- Operates equipment and uses supplies according to safety guidelines; performs general housekeeping and adheres to safety procedures.
- Assists with receipt, stocking, and maintenance of supply inventories.
Requirements
- Minimum of two years’ experience working in a lab animal environment with direct hands on with a variety of species, and at least six months of breeding technical experience.
- AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (ALAT).
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Skills
- Hands-on experience with various species of laboratory animals.
- Experience with animal breeding and weaning procedures.
- Technical support skills including animal handling, restraint, and restraint.
- Knowledge of animal welfare regulations and guidelines.
- Ability to operate laboratory equipment and supplies safely.
- Strong record-keeping and documentation skills.
Benefits
- The hourly range for this position is between $27-$28.50/hour.
- The schedule is Monday through Friday 7AM-3:30PM. Must be available some weekends and holidays.
