About the role

We are seeking an Animal Care Technician II Floater to work at our client’s site in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews, comprehends and complies with all SOP’s and quality assurance standards pertaining to specific area.
  • Maintains accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas as required by Institute and facility.
  • Operates equipment and uses supplies according to safety guidelines; performs general housekeeping and adheres to safety procedures.
  • Supports non-cage wash vivaria areas (including rack sanitation, PPE/supply stations and waste management).
  • Performs and ensures daily cage wash operations, including sanitizing equipment, staffing, training, and preventive maintenance in a multi-species animal research facility.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. plus a minimum of two years’ experience working in a laboratory animal facility performing animal husbandry and cage wash.
  • Associate’s degree in animal science or related field plus a minimum of one to two years’ experience working in a laboratory animal facility performing animal husbandry and cage wash.
  • Bachelor’s degree in animal science or related field plus minimum of one year experience working in laboratory animal facility performing animal husbandry and cage wash.
  • Certification/Licensure: Preference will be given to candidates who evidence achievement of AALAS certification at the ALAT level or above.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions and exhibit interpersonal skills that are conducive to effective communication and that contribute to a congenial work environment.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand high school level English.
  • Computer literacy using timekeeping, training software and word processing required; database record keeping helpful.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee frequently is required to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift move up to 100 pounds.

Pay Range

The pay range for this position is $24.78 – $30.24 / hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
