Animal Care Technician I

About the role

We are seeking an Animal Care Technician I for our Insourcing Solutions site in Chicago, IL. In this role, you will perform daily animal health observations, as well as animal husbandry duties including water bottle/line and cage checks, providing food/water, and performing cage changes and/or cleaning cages to maintain the quality and health of research animals. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate records of animal breeding, receiving, inspecting, and housing incoming animals, assisting with restraint, handling, and manipulation of animal species, and becoming involved in animal breeding and weaning procedures. Other duties may include monitoring personnel and equipment entry into various rooms, operating required equipment, and performing general housekeeping tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily animal health observations
• Carry out animal husbandry duties such as water bottle/line and cage checks
• Provide food/water and perform cage changes/cleaning
• Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, housing, and support areas
• Receive, inspect, and house incoming animals
• Aid in restraint, handling, and manipulation of animal species
• Participate in animal breeding and weaning procedures
• Monitor personnel and equipment entry into various rooms
• Operate required equipment and perform general housekeeping tasks

Requirements

• Associates degree and 6 months of animal handling, care, and husbandry experience
• Or Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in biology or animal science or related field and zero experience in animal handling, husbandry experience
• Achieving ALAT certification upon eligibility

Qualifications

• Minimum education requirement: Associates degree or Bachelor’s degree in biology or animal science or related field
• Experience: 6 months of animal handling, care, and husbandry experience or a Bachelor’s degree with zero experience
• Certification: Achieving ALAT certification upon eligibility

Pay

The pay range for this position is $20.25 per hour.
