Animal Care Assistant Cat Only Hospital

Job Summary

Aid DVMs and other hospital staff by providing direct care and maintenance of kennel, hospital, and surrounding areas. Responsible for feeding and general husbandry of hospitalized or boarding cats. Must be available to work weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Agree to incorporate the principles of the VCA Mission Statement, Three Steps of Service and VCA Standards of Client Service in daily job performance.
• Demonstrate excellent relations with clients/cats in waiting or exam rooms and kennel.
• Compassionate nursing care is the top priority for all patients.
• Keep kennels clean, orderly, and free of odors.
• Feed patients as scheduled.
• Ensure the comfort and cleanliness of hospitalized or boarding cats.
• Bath or clean cats immediately that become soiled with urine, blood, or feces.
• Stock supplies as needed.
• Keep the exterior of the hospital clean and orderly and free of feces.
• Perform janitorial care of the hospital facility, ensuring it is kept extremely clean throughout the day.
• Advise Medical Director or Technical Supervisor of any conditions that are unsafe, including unrecognized hazards or infractions of safety rules.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Dependable attendance is required.
• Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
• Willingness to work long or irregular hours under pressure conditions.
• Ability to walk, bend, stand, and reach constantly during a minimum 8-hour day.
• Visual acuity sufficient to maintain accurate records, recognize people, and understand written directions.
• Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand, give information in person, and over the telephone.
