About the role

The Anesthesiologist provides safe, quality patient care at The Orthopaedic Surgery Center, adhering to all facility policies and procedures. This is a LOCUM/Pool position at the Orthopedic Surgery Centers in Pewaukee and Johnson Creek. Candidates must currently reside within commuting distance of the work location.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patient status preoperatively and postoperatively.
  • Monitors patient before, during, and after anesthesia and counteracts adverse reactions or complications.
  • Provides safe, therapeutic, and quality patient care in a timely manner by setting appropriate priorities.
  • Coordinates interventions to enhance achievement of expected outcomes and ensure readiness for discharge.
  • Communicates appropriate information to surgeons concerning patient care.
  • Confers with surgeons to determine type and method of anesthetic appropriate on a case-by-case basis.
  • Completes procedures safely, providing proper pre-operative, intraoperative, and post-operative discharge instructions as needed.
  • Initiates and participates in patient and family education related to anesthesia.
  • Assesses learning needs according to the patient’s level of understanding and readiness to learn.
  • Assists in positioning patients on the operating room table to maximize comfort and surgical accessibility.
  • Displays an understanding of each patient’s cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturity in assessments, treatment, and care.
  • Demonstrates a complete understanding of established emergency procedures for The Orthopaedic Surgery Center.
  • Demonstrates the ability to direct and provide patient care in emergency situations.
  • Demonstrates the ability to make decisions concerning center-based problems.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) with successful completion of an accredited residency program in Anesthesiology.
  • Board certification in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) or other recognized certifying body.
  • Current, unrestricted medical license, or eligibility for licensure, in the state of Wisconsin.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
