About the role
The role involves administering anesthesia and anesthesia-related care under the supervision of surgeons and other medical professionals. This includes preparing patients for surgery, monitoring their physiological conditions, and ensuring patient safety throughout the process.
Responsibilities
- Pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation
- Evaluation of patients pre-operatively
- Formulating patient-specific anesthesia plans based on pre-surgical assessments
- Implementing, monitoring, and adjusting patient's physiologic conditions
- Transferring care responsibilities to other qualified providers post-operatively
- Acute and chronic post-operative pain management
- Selecting and ordering medications, fluids, and ventilator support
- Discharging patients from the post-anesthesia care unit and providing follow-up care
- Discussing and reviewing anesthesia plans with CRNAs
- Participating in additional areas of expertise such as responding to cardiac arrests and elective intubations
- Ensuring appropriate documentation for billing purposes
Requirements
- Current unrestricted physician and surgeon license in the State of Illinois
- Current DEA license and Controlled Substance registration in the State of Illinois
- Completion of an anesthesiology residency program approved by ACGME or equivalent
- At least 50 anesthetic procedures completed in the past 24 months
- Privileged and credentialed by the Medical Staff
- American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS Certification
- CPR Certification
Qualifications
- Basic education of M.D., D.O., or equivalent medical degree
- Successfully completed an anesthesiology residency program
- Ability to demonstrate proficiency in anesthesia administration
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Adaptability and reliability in a fast-paced environment
