Status: Full-time (exempt) - Halftime 26 weeks

About the role
ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114-bed rural medical center located in Ahoskie, North Carolina. The hospital serves approximately 40,000 patients per year and provides around 200 anesthetics monthly. The facility has 3 main operating rooms and caters to a mix of general outpatient procedures and surgeries, including but not limited to general surgery, ob-gyn, dental, and pediatrics.
Responsibilities
- Conduct patient evaluations, medical histories, and develop anesthetic plans.
- Maintain patient records and order diagnostic tests as needed.
- Work closely with surgical specialists and provide anesthesia maintenance and adjustments.
- Perform venous and arterial punctures, pre-anesthesia patient evaluations, and post-anesthesia care.
- Monitor patients' fluid, blood, and electrolyte balance, and other vital signs.
- Perform tracheal intubation, airway management, and extubation.
- Ensure safe recovery by monitoring patients following procedures.
- Evaluate patient histories, lab results, and surgical plans to determine anesthesia and pain management plans.
- Communicate with patients, their families, and caregivers; react appropriately to adverse reactions and complications.
- Supervise registered nurse anesthetists and other technical staff; mentor and supervise anesthesiology interns, residents, and fellows.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school.
- Board certification or eligibility (BC/BE) in anesthesiology.
- Strong regional skills, fellowship not required.
- NC state medical license.
- Minimum 3+ years experience providing anesthetics in a high acuity or similar setting.
