About the Role

The Anesthesia Assistant (AA) functions as an integral member of the patient-care team, providing anesthesia services that enhance quality of care, improve service levels, reduce hospital stays, and lower costs. The AA demonstrates excellence in anesthesia practice, including case management, staff education, and clinical research, and manages complex, unpredictable anesthesia situations.

The AA practices within established Medical Center guidelines, state medical board statutes, and anesthesia policies, procedures, and protocols, while adhering to the Intensive Caring Value Statements. The AA collaborates with a supervising physician (MDA) in the anesthetic care of every patient.

Responsibilities

  • Provide anesthesia case management for patients.
  • Manage complex and unpredictable anesthesia situations.
  • Demonstrate technical, cognitive, and interpersonal skills required for anesthesia care.
  • Collaborate with an MDA in the anesthetic care of each patient.
  • Adhere to Medical Center guidelines, state statutes, and anesthesia policies/procedures.
  • Participate in staff education and clinical research.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited anesthesia assistant program (18-month or 24-month).
  • Current certification from the NCCAA.
  • Current licensure from the Ohio State Medical Board.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Eligibility to obtain clinical privileges as designated by the OSUMC Corporate Credentialing Office.

Ongoing Requirements

  • Maintain NCCAA certification.
  • Maintain Ohio State Medical Board licensure.
  • Maintain ACLS certification.
  • Maintain clinical credentials with OSUMC Corporate Credentialing.
