Anesthesia Technician / Anesthesiology

Full-time, 9:00 AM – 9:30 PM. Weekend call and 2 holidays per year required.

Responsibilities

• Assists with the setup and cleanup of the anesthesia area in all anesthetizing locations.
• Places clean circuit on machine at the beginning of each day and after each case.
• Prepares invasive hemodynamic monitoring lines using sterile technique.
• Ensures anesthetic agents, supplies, and applicable items are available for daily cases and checks expiration dates.
• Terminally cleans anesthesia machines daily to maintain a clean environment.
• Ensures reusable equipment (e.g., monitoring cables) is clean and functional.
• Locates and changes O2 tanks when empty.
• Ensures all cables, cuffs, and lines attached to the anesthesia machine are available.
• Ensures suction system and supplies are available and functional.
• Cleans medication carts daily and ensures sharps containers are changed at appropriate fill levels.
• Disposes of contaminated materials in accordance with infection control policy.
• Assists with emergencies and code situations.
• Obtains blood specimens using standardized capillary or venipuncture procedures during the intraoperative phase of care.
• Performs point-of-care testing (e.g., EPOC, glucose), including documentation of quality control and troubleshooting.
• Maintains availability and working status of all anesthesia-related instruments, equipment, specialty carts, and supplies (e.g., Malignant Hyperthermia Cart, Difficult Airway Cart, Regional Anesthesia/Block Cart).
• Ensures specialty carts are stocked with necessary supplies, equipment, and instrumentation; checks for expired items.
• Knows the location of specialty items and ensures availability when needed.
• Places intubating scopes in appropriate containers prior to sending to Sterile Processing.
• Maintains inventories in all anesthetizing and supply locations.
• Identifies supplies by name to ensure accuracy in stocking.
• Monitors inventory of anesthesia supplies, orders supplies, and works with leadership to adjust par levels as needed.
• Monitors expiration dates, performs outdates checks, and rotates stock.
• Ensures all anesthetizing locations are stocked and prepared for all cases.
• Checks in and restocks supplies, placing them in appropriate storage locations.
• Responds to the needs of anesthesiology physicians and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) throughout the day.
• Available to respond to requests during cases and cleans rooms to ensure timely turnover between cases.
• Provides assistance while recognizing practice limitations.
• Precepts new employees and demonstrates proper use and care of equipment and supplies.
• Provides hands-on experience with all pieces of equipment and instrumentation.
• Teaches department standards for performance, patient care, safety, and service.
• Assists with appropriate documentation of orientation programs via skills checklists.
• Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.
• Performs physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Hospital experience with surgical or anesthesia equipment preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification preferred.
• On-call requirements, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
