Location: Chicago, Illinois – Rush University Medical Center, Department of Anesthesia. Full-time position (0.9–1.0 FTE) on Shift 1, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM.

About the Role

Anesthesiology Technologist II troubleshoots and repairs anesthesia equipment in collaboration with the biomedical engineering team and processes reusable equipment to manufacturer specifications. This role supports anesthesia providers during emergencies, ensures inventory and airway emergency supplies are stocked per policy, and assists in training and mentoring new and entry-level anesthesia technologists.

Responsibilities

• Know and apply JACHO and IDPH regulations relevant to Anesthesia.
• Respond immediately to emergency requests from anesthesia staff for additional supplies or equipment.
• Understand and use correct terminology for anesthesia supplies and procedures.
• Prepare anesthesia sites for all cases and procedures requiring anesthesia.
• Follow Medical Center Safety Policies & Procedures.
• Train and orient new employees; provide leadership and mentorship to entry-level anesthesia technicians.
• Recover and clean anesthesia equipment, including airway devices (e.g., Glidescopes, fiberoptic intubating scopes).
• Maintain anesthesia sites with the same standards as operating room suites, including PICU, Endoscopy, MRI, Interventional Radiology, IVF, OB, and adjacent labor/delivery rooms.
• Maintain inventory supplies in the prep/recovery area in 5 Atrium; check all anesthesia sites daily for outdated stock.
• Stock OB, labor/delivery rooms, Epidural bay, and other supply sites; assemble central line/A-line kits per protocol.
• Set up cardiac and neuro anesthesia sites; check and maintain code bags per protocol.
• Remove and replace all used single-patient care items immediately after each procedure.
• Assist in case turnover: dispose of single-use items, replace anesthesia circuit, suction canister/tubing, yankauer, ECG leads; wipe down anesthesia machine and Pyxis cart.
• Monitor inventory and equipment levels throughout the day.
• Provide airway set-ups, gas machine testing/troubleshooting, patient monitor set-ups, and emergency airway assistance.
• Prepare, disinfect, and troubleshoot all anesthesia-related equipment, including anesthesia machines (e.g., Draeger, Draeger Apollo).
• Troubleshoot and repair anesthesia equipment malfunctions with the biomedical engineering team or external vendors.
• Participate in quality assurance and safety audits related to anesthesia equipment.
• Demonstrate strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Requirements

• Certified Anesthesia Technologist (Cer. A.T.T.) certified by the American Society of Anesthesia Technicians and Technologists (ASATT) or equivalent job experience and training.
• Must maintain BLS certification; ACLS/PALS preferred.
• Five or more years of experience in Anesthesia Services, demonstrating skills as a Lead Technician.
• Associate’s degree in Anesthesia Technology preferred; high school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and training, accepted.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to safely transport anesthesia gas machines over long distances.
• Lift 40 lbs or more.
• Remain on your feet for extended periods.

Pay

Pay range: $20.19 – $31.80 per hour. Rush salaries are determined by education, job-related experience, skills, internal equity, and market data. Offers may vary based on individual circumstances.
