Responsibilities
- Supports and maintains daily anesthesia department equipment and supplies in each operating room on a case-by-case basis (45%–60%).
- Maintains and troubleshoots anesthesia-related equipment, performing repairs according to level of expertise.
- Calibrates monitors per unit protocol.
- Assists in the transfer of patients from OR table to patient cart and transports patients to the OR.
- Assists in providing timely and efficient case turnover by gathering, checking, organizing, dispensing, and/or processing equipment, gas cylinders, supplies, and instruments (10%–30%).
- Opens sterile supplies and instruments.
- Precepts new O.R. Assistants as needed.
- Assists with OR readiness through patient transportation, positioning, and room preparation; positions patients for procedures.
- Acts as a second assistant to the surgeon, performing duties related to draping, operative site exposure, and video.
- Performs non-nursing tasks as assigned to support patient care, including cleaning, running errands, stocking, and maintenance.
- Identifies and evaluates anesthesia supplies and equipment consistently, collaborating with the Medical Director, Anesthesia Department staff, and Director (10%).
- Determines value, placement, and par levels of anesthesia product inventory in the anesthesia stockroom and supply carts.
- Collaborates with the supply chain manager to problem-solve issues regarding order placement, supply availability, and alternatives during backorders.
- Orders supplies from the supply chain manager and outside vendors.
- Collaborates with the Medical Director, Anesthesia staff, and Director to assess anesthesia product needs (5%).
- Assists with exploring products needed for trials of equipment and cost-effective alternatives.
- Communicates budget variances related to anesthesia supplies in a timely manner.
- Prepares anesthesia orders and stocks anesthesia drugs/supplies in each OR daily.
- Cleans and sets up instrument trays specific to the area of work.
- As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), responsibilities require focus on safety, quality, and efficiency in performing job duties.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED (required).
- Computer knowledge to troubleshoot and repair anesthesia equipment within the scope of responsibility.
- Knowledge of the surgical environment, inventory control, basic indications of anesthesia drugs, and use of equipment and suppliers.
- Two years of recent progressive perioperative experience with similar responsibilities.
Schedule
Day shift, 40 scheduled weekly hours.
