Android Software Engineer II

Responsibilities

• Evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques.
• Designs and codes software with exceptional quality, meeting designated release plans and delivery commitments.
• Performs assignments within scope of defined programs, following instructions as to general results expected.
• Conducts design reviews, code walk-throughs, unit level testing, and integration testing.
• Works closely with the Software Quality Assurance team to test, troubleshoot, resolve, and release production software.
• Ensures prompt response to production and customer issues.
• Uses AI-assisted development tools (such as GitHub Copilot and VS Code AI extensions) to accelerate development, improve test coverage, enhance documentation, and support root-cause analysis.
• Works well with others, learns on the job, and thrives in a dynamic work environment.
• Acts as a confident team player in a fast-paced environment.
• Has a strong understanding of software design patterns and their application.
• Has a solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and design with strong analytical and debugging skills.
• Uses AI-powered coding assistants (e.g. GitHub Copilot) for tasks such as code generation, refactoring, test creation, and documentation.
• Is familiar with VS Code AI integrations and incorporates AI-supported workflows into daily development.
• Analyzes logcat, kernel logs, ANR traces, and system-level crash reports.
• Has experience modifying or building AOSP, including system services, frameworks, or vendor layers.

Requirements

• 3+ years of demonstrable experience in OO software design and development.
• 3+ years of experience with Java/Kotlin.
• Experience building and debugging Android applications and services preferably on embedded devices (AOSP-based systems, custom hardware, or constrained environments).
• Strong understanding of software design patterns and how, why, and when to apply them.
• Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and design with strong analytical and debugging skills.
• Experience using AI-powered coding assistants (e.g. GitHub Copilot) for tasks such as code generation, refactoring, test creation, and documentation.
• Familiarity with VS Code AI integrations and ability to incorporate AI-supported workflows into daily development.
• Confident team player motivated by a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to learn existing architecture quickly.
• Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills.

Preferred Skills

• Basic knowledge of the Linux OS.
• Experience with Firebase Crashlytics and Real Time Databases.
• Experience evaluating or integrating AI-assisted development practices, including prompt-driven coding, AI-supported code reviews, or automated test generation.
• Experience modifying or building AOSP, including system services, frameworks, or vendor layers.

The salary range for this position, intended for U.S. applicants, is $81,000 - $117,400 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities. The salary range reflected is based on a primary work location of Life Fitness Schaumburg and the actual salary may vary for applicants in a different geographic location.
