Android Software Engineer — Agentic AI Platform

Responsibilities
- Work across two surfaces simultaneously: a standard Android mobile app that mirrors an iOS experience, and an AOSP-based custom Android build running on wearable hardware.
- Make foundational decisions about how an agentic AI platform feels and behaves in a wearable form factor—a problem with no established conventions and very few reference points.
- Prepare for the platform’s transition from AOSP to RTOS, ensuring architecture decisions today remain viable as hardware evolves.
- Collaborate directly with the CEO and a small, high-trust engineering team across Silicon Valley and Paris, including close work with a China-based firmware team handling hardware bring-up.
- Use AI development tools (Cursor, Claude, Copilot) as a core part of your workflow.
What You'll Build
- A standard Android mobile app at feature parity with our existing iOS experience, delivering the Agentic OS to Android users with the same interaction quality and design integrity.
- An AOSP-based client for wearable hardware, building the application layer on top of a custom Android stack running on constrained hardware.
- The agent interaction surface for wearables, defining how users interact with an always-on AI without touchscreens, keyboards, or conventional UI paradigms.
- A platform architecture designed to survive the transition from AOSP to RTOS, ensuring today’s work remains relevant.
- Close integration with the firmware team, bridging the application layer and hardware bring-up work in Shenzhen.
- On-device processing integrations to minimize cloud dependency and maximize local execution on constrained hardware.
Requirements
- 4+ years of Android engineering experience with strong Kotlin skills.
- Solid understanding of Android platform internals, not just application-layer development but how the platform works beneath the surface.
- AOSP experience—having worked with or built on top of the Android Open Source Project is highly desirable for the wearable work.
- Experience with constrained or non-standard hardware environments (wearables, embedded Android, custom form factors, etc.).
- Comfort working at the intersection of application software and hardware, collaborating closely with firmware engineers.
- Familiarity with RTOS concepts (a plus given the planned platform transition).
- Active user of AI-assisted development tools with a point of view on their effective use.
- Strong written English and proven ability to work effectively in a remote and distributed team.
Nice-to-have Skills
- Experience with voice or audio-first interfaces.
- Always-on background processing expertise.
- Custom input methods or non-touch interaction paradigms.
- Wearable or AR platform development.
