About the role

We are seeking an experienced Android Platform Engineer to develop, debug, and enhance Android platform functionality across the full Android software stack. This role focuses on diagnosing and resolving complex platform stability issues, contributing to Android framework development, and improving platform reliability across Android version upgrades.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop Android middleware and background services for platform-level functionality.
  • Debug and reverse-engineer complex issues using Android Open Source Project (AOSP) source code.
  • Improve overall Android platform stability and reliability.
  • Resolve Android upgrade and integration issues across platform releases.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues within Android framework components, including system services and native platform components.
  • Investigate and resolve platform issues such as boot failures, black screens, and Application Not Responding (ANR) events.
  • Perform root cause analysis for complex or difficult-to-reproduce platform issues.
  • Resolve compliance test failures across Android compliance frameworks.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to support platform improvements and stability initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Android platform or Android framework development.
  • Proven experience working with Android Open Source Project (AOSP) source code.
  • Strong experience debugging and resolving complex Android platform stability issues.
  • Experience working across the Android software stack, including framework, native services, and vendor layers.
  • Strong programming experience with Kotlin, Java, and C++.
  • Experience modifying and debugging Android framework components and native Android services.
  • Experience designing or working with AIDL/Binder interfaces.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience with Android Automotive OS (AAOS).
  • Familiarity with Android Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) and vendor integration.
  • Experience with Android compliance frameworks including CTS, VTS, ATS, and STS.
  • Knowledge of Android graphics stack and display subsystems.
  • Experience using native debugging tools such as GDB, LLDB, Perfetto, Systrace, and Logcat.
  • Familiarity with Android build systems, including Soong and Make.
  • Experience working with SoC or silicon vendors during platform bring-up.
