Android Engineer, Terminal OS Platform

Job Summary

Stripe is seeking Android engineers to join the Terminal team. The Terminal team builds and enhances the Device Platform, including applications and services for physical Terminal devices, and collaborates with other engineers to set best practices for Android development.

About the Role

The Terminal team's mission is to make it as easy for businesses to accept in-person payments as Stripe's API does for online payments. Android engineers contribute to this mission by designing, building, and maintaining Android apps and SDKs in Kotlin, developing payment applications for various devices and form factors, and working with stakeholders to bring new features and products to Stripe's mobile users.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Android apps and SDKs in Kotlin
• Develop Android payment applications for a variety of devices and form factors
• Work with engineers, product managers, designers, and stakeholders across the company to bring new features and products to Stripe's mobile users
• Collaborate with Android developers who work on the Stripe mobile apps and Stripe Terminal to set best practices for Android development across the company
• Work with user research and product design to understand users and address their needs

Requirements

• Strong technical background with 2–6 years of experience in Android development
• Good intuition for simple, lasting, and scalable solutions
• Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment involving different stakeholders and subject matter experts
• Empathy for users and a focus on crafting great developer and consumer experiences
• Custom hardware experience on the Android platform
• Payments expertise or knowledge
• Backend infrastructure or services experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience based in the PST time zone
• Experience working in an office setting, with a preference for spending at least 50% of the time in the office or with users
