About The Role

We are seeking a talented Android Engineer to join our Seller Engineering organization within the Merchant Systems team. This team is responsible for developing and maintaining the internal and product systems that enable sellers to create, organize, and manage their inventory efficiently at scale on Whatnot. As an Android Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing and building mobile experiences that are central to the seller and buyer journey, focusing on growth, trust, and scalability. Your work will directly influence how thousands of new sellers and buyers discover, start, and succeed on our platform every week. You will develop high-quality Android features utilizing Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and backend engineers to define goals, scope projects, and make technical trade-offs. Additionally, you will contribute to evolving shared mobile infrastructure, uphold engineering excellence through code reviews and documentation, and help shape best practices across Whatnot’s engineering teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of experience building and shipping high-quality Android applications
  • Proficiency in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
  • Strong knowledge of reactive programming with Kotlin Coroutines and Flows
  • Experience with MVI or MVVM architecture patterns
  • Deep understanding of creating fluid, responsive user interfaces on Android
  • Focus on product quality, performance, usability, and trust
  • Able to work effectively in cross-functional teams with product, design, and backend peers
  • Experience using data and experimentation tools such as SQL, Snowflake, and A/B testing
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to drive alignment in fast-paced environments
  • Growth mindset with ownership from concept to launch and mentoring capabilities

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement high-quality Android features using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to define project goals and technical requirements
  • Contribute to the development and evolution of shared mobile infrastructure and best practices
  • Conduct thorough code reviews, maintain documentation, and participate in thoughtful technical discussions to ensure engineering excellence
  • Support and improve the performance, usability, and reliability of the mobile application
  • Engage in continuous learning and innovation to stay current with emerging Android development trends and tools
  • Participate in cross-team initiatives to enhance overall platform capabilities and user experience
  • Mentor junior team members, fostering a culture of growth and knowledge sharing
