About The Role

We are seeking a talented Android Engineer to join our Seller Engineering organization within the Merchant Systems team. This team is responsible for building internal and product systems that enable sellers to create, organize, represent, and manage their inventory at scale on Whatnot. As an Android Engineer, you will develop mobile experiences that are central to the seller and buyer journey, focusing on growth, trust, and scalability. Your contributions will directly influence how thousands of new sellers and buyers discover, engage with, and succeed on our platform each week.

The role offers flexibility to work remotely or from our global office hubs, with a preference for candidates residing within commuting distance of our New York or Seattle locations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain high-quality Android features using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend teams to define project scope and technical requirements
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of shared mobile infrastructure and best practices
  • Participate in code reviews, documentation, and team discussions to ensure engineering excellence
  • Implement scalable solutions that enhance the seller and buyer experience on the platform
  • Utilize data and experimentation to inform feature development and optimization
  • Mentor junior team members and foster a culture of continuous improvement
  • Stay updated with the latest Android development trends and incorporate them into our projects

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience building and shipping high-quality Android applications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Expertise in creating fluid, responsive user interfaces on Android
  • Strong knowledge of Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
  • Adept at reactive programming with Kotlin Coroutines and Flows
  • Experience with MVI or MVVM architecture patterns
  • Deep care for product quality and performance, delivering polished user experiences
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams including product, design, and backend engineers
  • Proficiency in data-driven decision making using SQL, Snowflake, and A/B testing
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to drive alignment in fast-paced environments
  • Growth mindset with a track record of ownership from concept to launch and mentoring others
