Responsibilities

• Examines, documents and treats a wide range of costumes
• Supports preventive conservation activities, exhibitions, and loans, as well as conservation outreach
• Collaborates with conservators, conservation scientists, collections care specialists, costume installation specialists, curators and other Museum staff
• Develops a research project focused on artist materials or techniques and/or new treatment methodologies in collaboration with the Center’s Research Laboratory
• Publishes and/or presents the research in a professional journal or conference
• Participates in informal lectures, symposia, workshops, as well as visits, and collaborates with nearby cultural institutions
• Couriers works of art on loan or exhibition to other museums and institutions
• May work at offsite storage locations

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Textiles Conservation
• Experience handling and treating costume in museum collections
• Excellent manual dexterity and sewing skills
• Some knowledge of fashion history is preferred
• Some knowledge of garment construction and pattern making is preferred
• Experience conducting research
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience with TMS is preferred

The expected hourly rate for this Los Angeles, CA based position is $25.00 subject to change, and the position is eligible for LACMA’s comprehensive benefits package.
