Responsibilities
- Perform specimen collection procedures following established protocols and standards, including urine collection and other methods as required
- Interact with patients in a professional and compassionate manner to explain procedures, alleviate concerns, and ensure patient comfort during specimen collection
- Accurately label specimens with patient information and ensure proper documentation of collection details, including date, time, and type of specimen
- Maintain cleanliness and sterility of collection equipment and work area to prevent contamination and ensure compliance with safety regulations
- Monitor and maintain inventory of collection supplies, ensuring an adequate stock of materials is available at all times
- Participate in quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of collected specimens, including performing proficiency testing and adhering to quality assurance protocols
- Adhere to all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures governing specimen collection, including HIPAA regulations and laboratory safety guidelines
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in a medical or healthcare setting is a plus
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle patient inquiries and concerns with empathy
- Proficient in basic computer skills (MS Office, electronic health records, etc.)
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
