About the role

KPIX-TV is seeking a skilled meteorologist to join our team. This position involves providing weather reports for various platforms including KPIX-TV, PIX+, and 27/7 streaming and digital channels. The ideal candidate must have at least five years of television experience, with a minimum of three years as a meteorologist, preferably in local market or network television news.

Responsibilities

  • Provide weather reports for KPIX-TV, PIX+, and 27/7 streaming and digital platforms.
  • Utilize graphics, NWS sources, and live radar to convey urgent information for storms and severe weather.
  • Ensure KPIX fulfills the mission of First Alert Weather by delivering accurate and timely information.
  • Present breaking news information on earthquakes and their potential impacts.
  • Occasionally cover stories outside the station - on location.
  • Write clearly and engage with video and graphics to illustrate facts and ideas in the story.
  • Make personal appearances to promote the station.

Requirements

  • At least five years of television experience, with a minimum of three years as a meteorologist.
  • Proven success in digital content development and engagement.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of personnel.
  • Familiarity with the Bay Area.
  • College degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Weather computer and graphics skills are required.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Must be comfortable learning new graphic and presentation software and systems.
  • Must be able to operate the technology with accuracy and speed.
  • Must be able to perform in a virtual reality environment, which requires a lot of movement through the space.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.

Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in presenting weather stories in innovative ways.
  • Experience with live reporting and engaging storytelling.
  • Knowledge of earthquakes and plate tectonics.

Pay

Hiring salary range: $130,000.00 - 190,000.00. The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is typically Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work as needed.
