About the role

This Analyst role on the US manager research fixed income team produces high-quality strategy-level analysis and broader asset-class research to help investors make better decisions. The position also involves covering select asset management firms as a parent lead and mentoring newer analysts. Based in Chicago, the role requires in-office presence four days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a collaborative team culture focused on high-quality research, delivering insightful analyses, accurate ratings, and broader research that clarifies the fixed income managed products landscape.
  • Develop general fixed income subject-matter expertise while specializing in one or more bond sectors.
  • Engage with external stakeholders (media, wealth managers, regulators) to strengthen understanding of Morningstar’s capabilities.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and/or analytical tool development using Morningstar intellectual property to improve fixed income strategy analysis.
  • Mentor and train new analysts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree; an MBA, CFA, CFP, or other advanced degree/accreditation is a plus.
  • Two to four years of experience in manager research or a related role.
  • Fixed income subject-matter expertise, with specialization in a particular bond sector preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategy-level analysis.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, including professional interaction with investment management teams and institutional clients.
  • Strong planning and time-management skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under tight deadlines, sometimes with incomplete information.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Familiarity with programming languages (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB) is a plus.

Pay

Total cash compensation range: $114,100.00–$167,350.00, inclusive of annual base salary and target incentive.

Schedule

Hybrid work environment requiring four days per week in the Chicago office. Additional flexibility and global collaboration tools are provided.
