Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare wires and check requests for payment of taxes and code to correct general ledger accounts
- Initiate sales/use tax payments to various taxing authorities
- Post journal entries to reflect the accrual and payment of sales/use taxes
- Absorb assistance with the flow of sales/use tax information to third party service providers
- Verify the collection and maintenance of certificates impacting the taxability of transactions
- Absorb assistance with the maintenance of compliance due date reports for SOX compliance purposes
- Absorb assistance with registering entities in new taxing jurisdictions, as required
- Absorb assistance during examinations by federal or state auditors
- Absorb assistance with the initiation and tracking of sales/use tax refund claims
- Verify all sales/use tax related compliance records are maintained in accordance with document retention policies
- Research tax issues and work on special projects as needed
- Respond to inquiries from vendors and customers to provide answers and resolution on issues presented
Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
- 2+ years of tax experience which includes at least 2+ years of sales/use tax experience or 2+ years of multi-state excise tax and/or motor fuel tax matters
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required
- Knowledge of SAP and a tax software solution (like Avalara/Zytax, OneSource/Sabrix, Tax Ware, and Vertex) is preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required because of interactions both inside and outside of the tax department
- Proficiency in analyzing and reconciling accounts and preparing journal entries
- Experience performing tax research using tax services such as CCH, RIA, BNA, etc
Required experience
- The Analyst level requires a Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or CMI candidate preferred.
Working Conditions
- Normal office working conditions
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing
- Occasion travel, including overnight stays, may be required due to administrative support requirements of other locations within the area
- Occasional visits to settings which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, requiring appropriate personal protective equipment
