Job Summary

The Research & Evaluation team is seeking a Research Analyst who is passionate about understanding and improving the student experience through qualitative and quantitative research. This position supports institutional decision-making by collecting, analyzing, and communicating information about the experiences, needs, and outcomes of SLCC students. This role is well-suited for a curious professional with a background in higher education research and a dedication to advancing student success.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct assigned qualitative and quantitative research and evaluation projects that support student success, institutional effectiveness, strategic planning, and college priorities.
  • Design research plans, methodologies, data collection tools, and study protocols appropriate to project goals.
  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data using appropriate methodologies to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
  • Evaluate programs, services, and initiatives and present findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Elevate student voices by identifying and communicating student experiences, perspectives, and needs through research findings.

Survey Administration, Consultation, and Evidence Collection

  • Administer the college's survey request process, including project intake, survey development, deployment, and reporting.
  • Consult with stakeholders and recommend appropriate survey designs, measurement approaches, and evidence-collection methods based on project goals and information needs.
  • Support the administration of institutional and departmental surveys using established survey research practices.
  • Develop survey summaries and recommendations that help stakeholders interpret and use survey findings.
  • Maintain the college-wide survey calendar and coordinate survey activities across campus to support effective evidence collection and reduce survey fatigue.

Data Analysis, Reporting, and Strategic Insights

  • Develop reports, executive summaries, presentations, dashboards, and data visualizations that communicate complex findings clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Use R or similar analytical software to manage, analyze, and visualize data.
  • Synthesize findings from multiple data sources into clear, actionable recommendations for decision-makers.
  • Support institutional metrics, strategic planning, and assessment efforts through analysis and reporting.

Course Evaluation Administration and Continuous Improvement

  • Oversee course evaluation setup, deployment, communications, and reporting activities using the institution’s course evaluation platform.
  • Provide guidance, support, and troubleshooting related to course evaluation administration processes.
  • Analyze course evaluation results and prepare reports and summaries for stakeholders.
  • Maintain documentation and recommend improvements to course evaluation practices and processes.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods, including surveys, focus groups, interviews, and mixed-methods approaches.
  • Experience conducting or supporting qualitative research activities such as focus groups, interviews, and thematic analysis.
  • Knowledge of survey design, sampling practices, data collection, and basic statistical analysis.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data to identify meaningful findings and actionable insights.
  • Ability to contribute to research reports, presentations, and data visualizations using tools such as R or similar analytical software.
  • Ability to build, distribute, and manage surveys in Qualtrics and provide consultation on survey administration processes.
  • Knowledge of course evaluation software and processes; able to lead institutional deployment and management of course evaluations.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment while maintaining accountability for individual responsibilities.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to translate data and research findings into meaningful stories and actionable recommendations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences (i.e., Psychology, Sociology, Human Factors), analytics, or related field of study.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of paid experience in research, assessment, evaluation, institutional research, higher education, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods and study design.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social sciences (i.e., Human Factors, Psychology, HCI), analytics, or related field of study.
  • Experience designing and administering surveys using Qualtrics.
  • Experience writing research reports for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with statistical or analytical software such as R, SPSS, SAS, Python, Tableau, or Power BI.
  • Experience supporting course evaluations or institutional surveys.
  • Experience conducting focus groups, interviews, or other qualitative research activities.
