The Budget Analyst position resides in the Budget Bureau, providing critical fiscal support to departmental programs and playing a key role in the development and administration of the Governor’s Budget.

Responsibilities

• Provides critical fiscal support to departmental programs and plays a key role in the development and administration of the Governor’s Budget.
• Works in a fast‑paced, budget‑focused environment that directly contributes to the Department’s ability to serve and protect California’s most vulnerable children, adults, and families.
• Requires awareness of financial management skills, including experience working with multiple funding sources, planning and monitoring expenditures, and preparing accurate fiscal reports and analytical tools.
• Ability to manage and validate complex financial data, ensure accuracy and completeness of fiscal documents, and maintain high standards of analytical precision.
• Ability to research financial resource availability by reviewing historical data, legislative changes, budget documents, and state and federal guidance.
• Document findings clearly and comprehensively to support informed fiscal decision‑making.
• Strong communication skills and ability to present financial information to program staff, management, and other stakeholders.
• Proficient in using tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, and written reports to convey complex fiscal concepts in a clear and organized manner.
• Supports the Department’s mission by ensuring programs have the fiscal resources needed to deliver essential services statewide.

Qualifications

• Classification: Analyst I – Salary Range A: $3,861.00 – $4,839.00; Range B: $4,181.00 – $5,233.00; Range C: $5,014.00 – $6,276.00.
• New to State candidates are hired at the minimum of the classification or alternate range when applicable.
• May be considered for Analyst II – Salary Range A: $6,031.00 – $7,547.00.
• Must meet the Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification for the Analyst I series.

Pay

Salary ranges for Analyst I: Range A $3,861.00 - $4,839.00; Range B $4,181.00 - $5,233.00; Range C $5,014.00 - $6,276.00. New to State candidates are hired at the minimum of the classification or alternate range. The position may also be considered for Analyst II, Range A $6,031.00
