About the role

The Analyst, Healthcare Financial Analytics functions as a junior actuary embedded within the finance team, responsible for the financial analysis of claims and healthcare data across Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) and Health Plans. This role builds and maintains key actuarial and financial analytics — including IBNR, reserves, accruals, and risk/trend modeling — and translates complex claims and financial data into clear, decision-ready insights for senior financial leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Perform financial analysis of claims and healthcare financial data for ACOs, Risk Bearing Organizations and Health Plans, including trend analysis, reserve adequacy, and risk-adjusted performance
  • Model and monitor key actuarial analytics, including IBNR estimates, claims reserves, accruals, and risk/trend development
  • Apply working knowledge of healthcare finance fundamentals — premium, risk adjustment, IBNR, reserves, and accruals — to support financial reporting and forecasting
  • Serve as finance support in preparing financial analyses and materials for review by senior financial leadership
  • Query and work directly with claims and financial data from the database (SQL) to build and validate models and reporting
  • Partner with senior actuaries at client organizations and senior financial leadership within CHS, gaining direct exposure to actuarial and executive-level financial decision-making
  • Prepare clear, well-organized presentations and materials that communicate financial and actuarial findings to non-technical and executive audiences
  • Identify trends, variances, and risk factors in claims and financial data, and proactively flag issues or opportunities to leadership
  • Support ad hoc financial and actuarial analysis as business needs evolve

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Actuarial Science, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field
  • Prior healthcare industry experience strongly preferred
  • Active actuarial exam progress required; candidates who have attained an actuarial designation (ASA) or who are on track to complete one within the next year are preferred
  • Strong understanding of healthcare finance fundamentals: premium, risk adjustment, IBNR, reserves, and accruals
  • Working knowledge of Medicare FFS, Medicare Advantage, and value-based care risk models (e.g., shared savings, capitation)
  • Working proficiency in SQL, with the ability to query and work directly with data from source databases
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, with high attention to accuracy and detail
  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex financial/actuarial concepts for senior leadership audiences
  • Ability to work effectively and independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
