About the role
The American Spine Registry is a collaboration between the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) on a national quality improvement registry for spine care. The registry helps hospitals and private practices measure and improve the quality of care they provide.
As a Data Abstractor, you will review and abstract orthopedic and neurologic data from medical records to ensure compliance with nationally recognized quality patient care processes and clinical outcomes. This role requires attention to detail, the ability to meet client timeline commitments, and strong client communication to ensure satisfaction with services.
Responsibilities
- Abstract crucial medical data for reporting key quality measures
- Review and abstract orthopedic and neurologic data from medical records
- Ensure compliance with nationally recognized quality patient care processes and clinical outcomes
- Communicate effectively with clients and team members
- Maintain reliability and responsiveness in meeting client deadlines
Requirements
- Graduate of an approved accredited nursing program, RN/BSN
- Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse
- Commitment and reliability; ability to dedicate consistent time to the role
- Superb communication and responsiveness
- Computer literacy, including proficiency with Excel, web-browsers, email, and electronic health records
- Familiarity with technologies such as security (e.g., Citrix), data collection/abstraction tools, encoders, and web-based applications
- Self-maintenance of skillset, including staying current with abstraction/coding rules, manuals, and guidelines
- Prior experience in a similar role
- Motivation and ability to work independently in a remote, team-based environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and tactfulness for effective communication with team members and client contacts
- COVID-19 vaccination required
- Background and drug screening required
Preferred Skills
- Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience, preferably Epic
- Knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications and programming
