Fresno City College serves a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population, with 60% identifying as Latinx, 11% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 5% as Black/African American, 20% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 3% as multiracial. Responsibilities

• Teach a part-time schedule of American Indian Studies courses as assigned.
• Use diverse pedagogies and integrate technology for face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats.
• Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
• Employ effective teaching methods aligned with approved curriculum and course outlines.
• Evaluate student progress through tests, exams, written assignments, and oral responses.
• Provide course syllabi to students and maintain classroom records per District Policy.
• Submit student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
• Teach in various instructional settings and times, including as needed.
• Fulfill all instructor duties as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
• Perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

All candidates must demonstrate:

• Responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
• Commitment to equity-minded practices in the classroom.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Native American/American Indian Studies; or
• Master’s degree in Ethnic Studies and Bachelor’s degree in Native American/American Indian Studies; or
• A valid California Community College Credential; or
• Equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency petition).

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
• Recent experience working with racially minoritized students (e.g., African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American) and understanding historical exclusion patterns in higher education.
• Willingness to examine and improve instructional and relational practices to support racially minoritized students.
• Willingness to collaborate with students outside instruction hours for extracurricular activities.
• Related work or professional experience.
• Experience with students of diverse cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
• Experience supporting underrepresented populations (e.g., students of color, foster youth).
• Facilitation of multicultural and cross-cultural communication with sensitivity.
• Experience with under-prepared and high-need community college students.
• Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success.
• Proficiency with instructional technologies.
• Strong communication skills with students and staff.
• Understanding of decolonial and antiracist teaching methodologies.
• Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials.
• Familiarity with the community college mission and goals.

Pay

Newly hired part-time faculty will be placed on step one (1) of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule. Salary classification is based on education and experience as outlined in the Part-Time Faculty Salary Classifications. Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
