Amerex - 1st Shift Material Handler
About the role
The Material Handler is responsible for the reconciliation of incoming and outgoing materials and movement of finished goods and material. Responsibilities include moving material to appropriate areas, loading/unloading trucks, maintaining equipment storage areas, packing containers, and operating material handling equipment.
Responsibilities
- Move freight, stock, or other materials to and from storage or production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, ships, or containers, by hand or using trucks, tractors, or other equipment.
- Sort cargo before loading and unloading.
- Attach identifying tags to containers or mark them with identifying information.
- Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs.
- Record numbers of units handled or moved, using daily production sheets or work tickets.
- Maintain equipment storage areas to ensure that inventory is protected.
- Pack containers and re-pack damaged containers.
- Carry needed tools or supplies from storage or trucks and return them after use.
- Move materials, equipment, or supplies.
- Sort materials or objects for processing or transport.
- Load shipments, belongings, or materials.
- Mark materials or objects for identification.
- Receive information or instructions for performing work assignments.
- Review work orders or schedules to determine operations or procedures.
- Record operational or production data.
- Secure cargo.
- Position material handling equipment.
- Operate moving or lifting equipment.
- Monitor cargo area conditions.
- Clean facilities or work areas.
- Package materials or products.
- Connect cables or electrical lines.
- Set up material handling gear or equipment and packaging.
- Maintain material moving equipment in good working condition.
- Operate packing or other material processing equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, proficiency in written and verbal communication, and good spelling and grammar.
- A high degree of attention to detail; demonstrates accuracy and self-directed.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel.
- Experience with Inventory tracking software desired.
- Experience with data entry software and handheld computer device software.
- Must be able to pass “Forklift Certification” process.
Summary of Working Conditions
This position may involve potential exposure to hazardous materials, and environmental changes (heat/cold), and the employee must be able to work under stress occasioned by production requirements, personnel, and the needs of other departments, utilizing proper body mechanics.
Physical Requirements
- Physical activities required of this job include but are not limited to considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body include climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, standing, stooping, and handling tools and materials.
- The employee must regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Erecting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force to frequently lift, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time; however, it may involve walking and standing for brief periods of time.
- Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
- Work will involve frequent lifting of materials and product up to 50lbs.
- The employee will be occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, and walk.
