Responsibilities

  • Maintain an orderly surgical field and pass instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon.
  • Anticipate and prioritize the needs of the procedure.
  • Takes part in sponge, needle, and instrument counts as dictated by the procedure.
  • Maintain surgical specimens for pathology evaluation.
  • Assist in ordering and stocking specialty supplies under the direction of management staff and departmental guidelines.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert for at least one tertiary specialty.
  • Provide scrub services for major procedures in at least two surgical specialties (independently with high physician satisfaction).
  • Prepare and conduct technical performance-oriented training related to specialty service.
  • Serve as a preceptor to perioperative personnel rotating through the scrub roles associated with their primary specialty(s) and/or second circulate on major tertiary procedures.
  • Collaborate with surgeons and address case needs when performing duties in either the scrub or second circulator roles.
  • Transport and deliver items, equipment, and medications throughout the facility.
  • Participate in clinical orientation of SPD staff, serving as a role model and technical resource.
  • Perform Surgical Tech I and II duties reliably and dependably.
  • Participate in departmental performance improvement activities, meet education and certification requirements, uphold Orlando Health philosophy and objectives, contribute to organizational effectiveness, and demonstrate career growth and development.

Qualifications

  • Education/Training: High school graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of Surgical Technology training program or Orlando Health training program.
  • Licensure/Certification: Maintain current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Experience: Four (4) years of surgical tech experience required or holding a CST certificate and two (2) years of surgical tech experience may substitute for the required experience.
