Ambulatory Pharmacist

Location: Onsite in Kaneohe, HI
Shift: Monday–Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, prepare, and dispense medications; verify prescribed medications according to professional standards, facility procedures, and state and federal legal requirements.
• Perform medication reconciliation processes to extend a seamless continuum of care for patients upon discharge.
• Ensure and demonstrate a focus on excellent customer service and clinical care.
• Consult with patients regarding individual medications or supplies prescribed, including dosage, frequency, specialized requirements, and possible drug interactions.
• Interact closely with patients to answer all questions and concerns regarding their medication therapy.
• Review and evaluate patient's plan of care for therapeutic appropriateness.
• Participate in achieving business goals and metrics for the ambulatory pharmacy, including assisting in marketing events and promotions.
• Assist in the fiscal management of the ambulatory pharmacy to optimize profits and control expenses, consulting with relevant managers and directors.
• Manage all functions for ambulatory pharmacy technicians, including hiring, training, terminating, and performance management.
• Monitor the overall performance of all ambulatory pharmacy staff to ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational policies, practices, and approved pharmaceutical dispensing processes.
• Assist in maintaining and executing all established procedures concerning quality improvement, quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and record keeping.
• Submit, review, and handle all adjudicated prescription claims to ensure appropriateness of reimbursement, co-pay, and related financials; follow up on claims deemed inappropriate.
• Establish, supervise, and maintain all pricing tables, special tier pricing, and related pricing structures as necessary for operation.
• Make recommendations to managers regarding changes to improve operating procedures or patient care.
• Perform prescription verification and provide technical guidance to pharmacy technicians.
• Respond promptly and appropriately to patient inquiries, requests, and issues escalated to a higher level of authority.
• Follow through on closing any outstanding patient concerns to provide superior customer care.
• Provide consultation on pharmacy and therapeutic matters to various levels of organizational personnel.
• Assist and review daily reporting and scheduling of hours worked for pharmacy technicians, including sick time, vacation time, personal and holiday time, adjusting schedules as needed to maintain optimal patient care.
• Supervise activities related to patient profiles and contacts, ensuring updates for insurance verification and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in departmental meetings and in-service training for pharmacy technicians.
• Collaborate with organizational personnel on quality, satisfaction, service excellence, and clinical care as needed.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Degree or Pharm D degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy; current, unrestricted pharmacist license through the appropriate state board of pharmacy.
• Zero (0) to three (3) years of directly related and progressively responsible retail/ambulatory care pharmacy experience.

Pay

Full-time salary range: $93,500 – $187,000. This range reflects a national average for this job. The actual range may vary based on your locale. Ranges in Colorado, California, Washington, New York, Hawaii, Vermont, Minnesota, Massachusetts, and Illinois may be up to 10% lower than the minimum salary range and up to 12% higher than the maximum salary range.
