Job Summary

The Ambassador at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for managing and optimizing patient and visitor transport, including wheelchairs, stretchers, and other means of transport. This role collaborates with the Shift Supervisor and serves a vital patient-facing role, utilizing strong communication and organization skills to engage with a diverse array of people, document and track all requests for transport service, and monitor transport equipment to ensure smooth and timely transportation.

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Receives and transports patients/visitors in a safe and timely manner to their designated site.
  • Sets up opportunities to reduce waste and streamline processes to aid in safe and timely movement of patients within the organization.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures for patient transport and uses proper body mechanics during transport.
  • Possesses working knowledge of electronic tracking system, paging system, phone system and logging in and out of patient transport assignments.

Patient Care

  • Assesses the transportation needs of the patient.
  • Performs duties assigned to meet personal needs and comfort of patients.
  • Affords assistance with the transport of patients requiring oxygen and IV therapy.
  • Maintains the safe and proper handling of oxygen tanks and IV equipment during transport.
  • Maintains vigilance over patients' conditions during transport and reports any changes to the nursing staff.
  • Provides comfort and reassurance to patients during transport.

Documentation

  • Documents all requests for transport service in order to provide an accurate and timely tracking system.
  • Possesses knowledge of electronic tracking system and Safety Solutions.

Maintenance

  • Maintains wheelchairs, stretchers, etc., in a clean and sanitary condition as well as proper working order.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.

  • Required Licenses and Certifications: Not specified.

  • Work Experience: 1-3 years documented proficiency in public relations. 4-6 years 3-4 years in a public relations capacity with successful demonstrated skills in technical, oral, and written communications.

  • Skills: Knowledge of age appropriate care to infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics; ability to recognize changes or abnormalities in patient condition and report same; ability to prioritize, assist, and perform numerous transport functions; ability to recognize patients in need of assistance and activate appropriate resources when needed; ability to communicate with a diverse group of people; ability to project a professional and personable image to patients, family members, staff, and other customers; ability to interact and communicate information and ideas to all levels of personnel within the organization; service orientation.
