About the role

This senior management position leads multiple teams responsible for establishing and implementing new or significantly revised electronic trading and algorithmic application systems. The role carries co-equal ownership of three domains — Fixed Income execution algo, full trading-desk tooling, and RFQ workflow — including their technology stack, roadmap, and engineering teams. The incumbent serves as the primary technology partner to Fixed Income trading desks, ensuring Citi maintains and extends its position as a leading Fixed Income franchise.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design, architecture, and delivery of Fixed Income execution algorithms, collaborating directly with trading desk end-users to enhance execution quality and delivery velocity.
  • Lead the design and build of full-featured, front-to-back trading applications — order/execution management (OMS/EMS), pricing and quoting interfaces, position and risk views, and real-time desk workflow tooling used by traders.
  • Own the end-to-end RFQ workflow — auto-quoting, request routing, pricing integration, dealer-to-client / dealer-to-dealer venue connectivity, and straight-through processing.
  • Lead and develop multiple engineering teams, including performance management, hiring, and ensuring adherence to best practices and Citi policy.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships across regions, presenting regular project and team reviews to senior management and business leaders.
  • Collaborate with globally distributed eTrading teams to build and leverage shared solutions, maximizing platform reuse.
  • Oversee budgeting, planning, policy formation, disaster recovery, and change management with appropriate controls and regulatory compliance.
  • Assess and manage risk in all business decisions, ensuring transparency, ethical conduct, and compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Conduct comprehensive personnel duties (e.g., performance evaluations, hiring, and disciplinary actions) and ensure teams adhere to robust development processes tailored for trading systems.
  • Develop a clear vision for the team around roles and responsibilities, structuring teams for optimal impact and alignment to business structures within the electronic trading landscape.
  • Prepare and present regular team/project reviews, including strategic initiatives and performance metrics for trading applications, to senior management and business leaders.
  • Drive the strategic design and advanced development of system architecture for low-latency, high-throughput electronic trading platforms.
  • Ensure staff adheres to Citi documented policy and procedures, maintaining desktop procedures and supporting documentation for all trading system filings.
  • Monitor and strategically manage electronic trading application initiatives, including budgeting, planning, and contributing to future technology strategy.
  • Ensure all changes to trading systems are managed with appropriate controls, comprehensive documentation, and necessary approvals, including regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Research and resolve complex technical and business issues related to electronic trading, providing expert recommendations and escalating as needed.
  • Manage and maintain disaster recovery plans for critical trading applications, oversee testing, and provide permit-to-operate for new or updated systems.
  • Lead and deliver local staff forums, presenting global, regional, and location news and updates to engage the team in electronic trading technology advancements.
  • Contribute to defining and implementing best practices and processes for high-performance and regulated trading environments, ensuring transparency and consistency.
  • Appropriately assess risk in strategic business decisions regarding electronic trading platforms, demonstrating consideration for the firm’s reputation and compliance.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of relevant experience in financial services, with a significant and proven track record in electronic trading or algorithmic trading applications development.
  • 8-10+ years of managerial experience, leading large-scale and critical technology teams, preferably in a global context.
  • Extensive experience with complex financial products and trading mechanisms.
  • Advanced working knowledge of the electronic trading industry, market microstructure, and competitors’ products and services.
  • Advanced knowledge of the strategic direction of the function within electronic and algorithmic trading.
  • Proficient computer skills with a focus on advanced technical tools, development environments, and data analysis platforms used in trading, in addition to Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated exceptional leadership, management, and talent development skills, with a proven ability to lead and motivate highly skilled technical teams.
  • Deep understanding of low-latency, high-performance computing, distributed systems, and multi-threading techniques applied to trading.
  • Expertise in relevant programming languages (e.g., Low Latency Java).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree/University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent experience.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
