Alaska Native Cultural Paraeducator (Harborview Elementary)

Full-time 1.0 FTE position available immediately at Harborview Elementary School.

About the Role

Provides academic tutoring in basic skills to targeted Alaska Native students. Maintains student records including attendance, discipline, and academic progress data. Collaborates with classroom teachers to present and instruct. Plans, organizes, and implements engaging after-school clubs.

Responsibilities

• Deliver academic tutoring in basic skills to Alaska Native students.
• Maintain accurate student records (attendance, discipline, academic progress).
• Collaborate with classroom teachers on instruction.
• Plan and implement after-school clubs.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• Two years of prior clerical or instructional assistance experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Alaska Native language and traditions preferred.
• Valid Alaska driver’s license.
• Must meet one of the following:
  • Associate degree (AA), or
  • 48 semester hours of college credit, or
  • Willingness to take and pass the WorkKeys Exam.

Skills

• Methods and practices of instructional assistance.
• Alaska Native and/or American Indian culture.
• Filing and record keeping.
• State and federal programs pertaining to Alaska Native students.
• Higher education programs and funding sources for Alaska Natives.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Proficiency with personal computers and related software.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to work effectively with Alaska Native and/or American Indian students.
• Ability to assist teachers, parents, and administrators.

Pay

Starting salary of $29.55 per hour for a 9-month position, working 37.5 hours per week.
