Position Summary
Serves as the Shift Supervisor for the Airspace Information Center (AIC) at Biggs Army Airfield, Fort Bliss, Texas. Responsible for the use of the designated airspace utilized by the AIC Facility. Coordinates airspace utilization and operational requirements with aviation units and external air traffic agencies. Provides essential leadership for maintaining safe, compliant, and efficient air traffic operations including UAS activities during the assigned shift. Operations are conducted in accordance with Army Regulation 95-2, TC 3-04.15 Air Traffic Control Operations and Training, Fort Bliss Regulation 385-63, and Fort Bliss Regulation 95-1. Responsible to the AIC Facility Chief for directing and supervising AIC personnel providing flight following services and airspace advisory support for aircraft operating within Fort Bliss restricted areas, training sectors, corridors, and routes.
Responsibilities
- Continuous traffic monitoring and inputting hourly traffic counts.
- Managing controller rest and break schedules in compliance with AR 95-2 and TC 3-04.15.
- Making informed decisions based on real-time data.
- Ensuring interfacility coordination lines, crash/alert phones, and all emergency lines are monitored 24/7.
- Providing on-the-job training (OJT) and conducting assessments of training through the administration of controller evaluations (DA Form 3479-1 [Trainee/Controller Evaluation]).
- Conducting position qualification evaluations when directed by the facility chief/training supervisor.
- Assisting and advising controllers during emergencies.
- Maintaining facility records.
- Ensuring personnel are current and proficient.
- Notifying search and rescue facilities of aircraft in distress and providing assistance and advice.
- Delegating responsibility to subordinates and assisting the training supervisor.
- Evaluating the operational effectiveness of facility systems, subsystems, and equipment.
- Recording and reporting outages and taking action to correct discrepancies.
Qualifications
Job Requirements, Mandatory:
- Minimum of six (6) years of Air Traffic Control Supervisory operational experience.
- Required to obtain and maintain an active Secret clearance or higher.
- Possession of Certificate of Grades or FAA Air Traffic Safety Oversight Service (AOV) Credential prior to appointment.
- Required to obtain and maintain a Class IV Flight Physical.
Requirements (Preferred):
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Possession of a Control Tower Operator (CTO) certificate.
- Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise personnel and coordinate aviation operations in a dynamic operational environment.
Note:
The successful candidate must be able to interpret civilian and military regulations and guidance, use good judgment in the performance of air traffic control operations, and follow written/verbal instructions. The candidate must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
