About the role
ITnova is seeking an experienced Airport Systems Project Manager to lead complex technology and infrastructure projects supporting airport operations, public safety, security, and other mission-critical systems. The Project Manager will oversee projects from planning and requirements development through design, procurement, implementation, testing, commissioning, and closeout.
Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, design, implementation, and closeout of complex airport systems and technology projects.
- Develop and manage project scope, schedules, budgets, milestones, risks, and deliverables.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including engineering, IT, airport operations, facilities, security, vendors, and contractors.
- Manage project requirements and ensure solutions align with operational needs, technical standards, and Airport Authority objectives.
- Oversee design reviews, procurement, installation, integration, testing, commissioning, and system acceptance.
- Monitor contractor and vendor performance and review technical submittals, schedules, change requests, invoices, and project documentation.
- Identify and manage project risks, issues, dependencies, changes, and resource requirements.
- Lead project meetings and provide clear status reports and presentations to technical teams, management, and executive stakeholders.
- Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with applicable engineering standards, regulations, quality requirements, and contract requirements.
- Support development of capital improvement plans, project estimates, business cases, and technology modernization roadmaps.
- Maintain project documentation, including requirements, schedules, decisions, meeting records, test results, and closeout documentation.
- Support transition of completed systems into operations, maintenance, and lifecycle management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Project Management, or related field.
- 8+ years of experience managing complex technology, engineering, infrastructure, or systems projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing projects through the full project lifecycle, including requirements development, planning, design, procurement, implementation, systems integration, testing, commissioning, and operational transition.
- Experience managing complex, multidisciplinary projects involving technology, engineering, infrastructure, systems, and operational stakeholders.
- Ability to manage project scope, schedules, budgets, risks, issues, dependencies, resources, and change management.
- Experience coordinating and overseeing contractors, engineering consultants, technology vendors, and internal project teams.
- Strong understanding of systems integration, technical requirements, interfaces, dependencies, and operational impacts.
- Experience reviewing technical designs, specifications, project plans, submittals, testing documentation, and other engineering deliverables.
- Ability to translate technical and operational requirements into practical project plans, solutions, and implementation strategies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with technical teams, airport operations, management, executive leadership, vendors, and contractors.
- Must be a US Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Engineering, Project Management, or related discipline.
- Active Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience managing projects in an airport, aviation, transportation, or other mission-critical environment.
- Experience working with an Airport Authority, FAA, airline, transportation agency, or government organization.
- Experience with airport systems, including communications, networking, public safety, security, operational technology, facilities systems, or other airport infrastructure.
- Experience managing large-scale capital improvement or modernization programs.
- Knowledge of airport planning and development processes, including the Airport Master Plan and Airport Security Master Plan (ASMP).
Schedule
This position is Hybrid, must be in the Washington DC/Baltimore MD area.
