About the role

The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) is seeking an Airport Operations Specialist to contribute to the daily operations and success of Syracuse Hancock International Airport. This role operates under the general supervision of the Director of Airport Operations and represents the executive team during non-business hours.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all shift activities, coordinating and monitoring functions to ensure consistency with airport policies, procedures, and regulations, and safety and security.
  • Represent Airport Management in all aspects of airport operations, ensuring operational efficiency and safety.
  • Perform safety and security inspections of the aircraft operating area (AOA) and terminal facilities, reporting and directing necessary responses and corrective actions for deficiencies.
  • Coordinate airport's response to critical incidents, irregular operations (IRROPS), and emergencies, providing effective resolutions.
  • Maintain airport activities, properties, and facilities, monitoring airline, tenant, and contractor performance.
  • Manage shared-use equipment, ensuring availability during regular and irregular operations and emergencies.
  • Investigate complaints, issues, concerns, and inquiries, providing recommendations for resolution.
  • Support general policy development for Airport operations.
  • Communicate with stakeholders on construction and maintenance projects, ensuring minimal operational disruption and addressing safety and customer satisfaction concerns.
  • Work with contractors during airfield construction activities, ensuring safety and security.
  • Monitor and record incidents and accidents on airport property.
  • Provide direction and instruction on resolving critical incidences/situations, operational activities, security-related activity, security breaches, and violations of rules and regulations.
  • Review and maintain records and operational logs, preparing reports and correspondence.
  • Represent the organization, both internally and externally, supporting the strategic direction, priorities, objectives, vision, mission, and values of the Authority.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of 14 CFR Part 139 and 77, and 49 CFR 1542.
  • Knowledge of airport operations and activities.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of a two-way radio communication system, air to ground, and communication with the tower.
  • Knowledge of SMS and ability to report safety-related items for risk assessment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to assess operational situations and make sound judgments to ensure safety.
  • Ability to remain calm and rational during stressful and emergency situations.
  • Clear and distinct voice for public speaking.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., work in all weather conditions, drive a vehicle, use hands and fingers, and use eyes for close vision and depth perception.
  • Ability to work 24/7 shift work.

Qualifications

  • Promotional/Internal: One (1) year of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in airport field maintenance or airport communications center.
  • Open/External: Bachelors degree in Aviation management or equivalent, or four (4) years of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, working at a commercial airport or military airbase in airport operations, airside, or landside.
