About the role

Supervise and participate in the work of Airport Operations Center Coordinators. Work includes organizing shift resources, assigning tasks, training, scheduling, conducting performance reviews, and relaying and following complex oral and written instructions. Act decisively and exercise independent judgment within established rules, regulations, and procedures. Requires excellent organizational and leadership skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships while representing Charlotte Douglas International Airport in a professional, positive manner.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and participate in the work of Airport Operations Center Coordinators, including organizing shift resources, assigning tasks, training, scheduling, and conducting performance reviews.
  • Relay and follow complex oral and written instructions.
  • Provide assistance to tenants, contractors, the traveling public, and airport employees.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Exercise independent judgment to ensure the safety of persons and security of property within established rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Assist Joint Operations Center Manager with 24/7/365 administrative duty officer responsibilities.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing, including operating radio equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records and produce reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management/Administration, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a field related to aviation plus three years of experience; or
  • Associate’s Degree in Aviation Management/Administration, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a field related to aviation plus five years of experience; or
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent plus seven years of experience.
  • Work experience in Airport Operations at an FAR Part 139 certified airport and familiarity with Charlotte Douglas International Airport preferred.
  • Knowledge of FAR Parts 139 and TSR Part 1542 required.
  • Knowledge of ICS/NIMS required.
  • Valid driver’s license in state of residence and ability to obtain and maintain a City driving permit.
  • Must successfully pass and maintain an active Security Threat Assessment (STA) and Criminal History Records Check (CHRC). Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.

Skills

  • Knowledge of airport operations and telecommunications.
  • Familiarity with airport locations, processes, and emergency response.
  • Clear and effective verbal communication in person, over telephone, and via two-way radio.
  • Clear and effective written communication.
  • Ability to organize data and prioritize resources during routine and special operations.
  • Proficiency in various computerized systems.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other agencies, tenants, employees, and the public.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency and stressful situations.
  • Ability to assess situations quickly and objectively to determine the proper course of action within established rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a diverse staff.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • Generally sedentary work, involving sitting most of the time, with occasional walking and standing.
  • May require exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Light to moderate lifting and carrying; some crouching, stooping, squatting, crawling, reaching, pushing, and pulling when performing tasks.
  • Requires grasping, stooping, squatting, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
  • Adequate vision, hearing, and speech required.
  • Concentrated and attentive use of senses (visual, audio, and other sensory modalities) for proofreading, data entry, and tabulating data.
  • Ability to operate in an environment with frequent interruptions from people and/or noises, which may result in stress, fatigue, or strain.
  • Comprehension of written information in work-related documents.
  • Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech.

Schedule

  • Must be able to work assigned shifts, including holidays, unscheduled overtime, and report back to work during emergencies.
  • Shifts are assigned based on an approved bid process and seniority; no shift can be guaranteed.
  • Schedule subject to change and overtime.
