Aircraft Survival Flight Equipment Technician I

About the Role

This occupation involves disassembling, repairing, testing, troubleshooting, examining, fitting, modifying, maintaining, installing, and determining serviceability of aircraft survival and flight equipment such as helmets, torso harness assemblies, preservers, parachutes, life rafts, chemical and biological protective devices, survival kits, oxygen masks, and anti-G suits. The work includes operational and circuit checks of emergency signaling and communication devices such as survival radios and beacons.

The role requires knowledge of mechanical and electrical repair and maintenance procedures, pyrotechnic and explosive devices, and aircraft egress systems. Familiarity with aircraft assigned to the unit, detailed knowledge of the operation and characteristics of aircraft survival and flight equipment, and the ability to demonstrate and explain proper usage and operation of the equipment are essential.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum two (2) years of actual and recent O or I level E-2C/D Aircraft Maintenance experience or equivalent rotary aircraft experience.
• Knowledge of mechanical and electrical repair and maintenance procedures, pyrotechnic and explosive devices, and aircraft egress systems.
• Detailed knowledge of the operation and characteristics of aircraft survival flight equipment.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications.
• Organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) or Rapid Gate Pass.
• Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required to perform assigned maintenance tasks.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Able to meet physical requirements and pass any medical examination requirements related to performing daily assigned tasks.
• PR “A” school or equivalent.
• Able to pass an ordnance physical and become qualified.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience with U.S. Naval repair maintenance operations on military aircraft.

• Stand, bend, and work in cramped areas.
• Lift and carry tools and equipment, occasionally weighing over 40 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Pay

Hiring hourly rate of pay: $36.92 (set by Collective Bargaining Agreement).

• Current rate: $36.92 per hour.
• On or around 6/1/2027: $38.03 per hour.
