Aircraft Mechanic III

Responsibilities

• Leads a team in the performance of aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled/unscheduled maintenance.
• Provides technical guidance to supervise subordinate mechanics on maintenance operations for supported aircraft.
• Performs, supervises, and inspects duties of Mechanics I, II, and III.
• Maintains, repairs, and modifies aircraft structures, structural components, and engines of complex to extreme difficulty.
• Maintains and repairs aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
• Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions and restore equipment condition and operation.
• Applies professional technical expertise to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufacturers’ manuals.
• Requires comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures, sheet metal/structural modifications, and repair.
• Determines functionality of non-complex electrical systems.
• Uses aircraft-unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes, and sheers.
• Provides technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers.
• Prioritizes workload to meet aircraft delivery schedules.
• Makes entries in aircraft logs and records.
• Provides guidance and technical expertise to lower-level technicians for all aircraft modifications and maintenance efforts.

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of aviation structure maintenance experience.
• Proficiency in depot-level maintenance procedures and processes.
• Knowledge of FAA, military, and industry standards.
• Familiarity with aircraft structures and airframes.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical documentation and team collaboration.
• 5 years prior experience on an Air Force Wide-body platform (preferably P-8).
• Travel may be required.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply.

Preferred Qualifications

• FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license or equivalent military certification.
• Prior service in a military or government aviation maintenance environment.
• Aircraft Avionics/Electrician Certifications.
• Past Quality Assurance or QAR Experience.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift, push, pull, and manipulate 50lbs independently when needed.
• Must be able to climb on ladders if needed.
• Must be able to repeatedly enter and exit aircraft using stationary steps/stairs.
• Involves long periods of standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, and crawling on aircraft structure and around aircraft for maintenance functions.
• May require working in confined workspaces.
• May require use/exposure to fuels, oils, hydraulic fluids, and cleaning solvents.
• Position is located in a high-noise area within an aircraft hangar/flightline environment.
• FIT for Duty Physical is required.
• May require DOT and Respiratory Physicals.
