Responsibilities
- Perform a full range of aircraft sheet metal duties including, but not limited to, disassemble, modify, repair, and reassemble complex aircraft metal items and systems.
- Analyze and evaluate structural damage to metal systems and items; develop patterns using a combination of parallel and radial line development.
- Fabricate, install, and repair a variety of items and systems made from a wide variety of metals, e.g., stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb, alloys, aluminum.
- Replace sections and patch old systems; cut, bend, shape, and form metals for items that have numerous irregular angles, planes, and curves with varying pitch and circumference.
- Use a variety of assembly joints, complex fastening systems, riveted or welded joints, drill or punch holes.
- Assemble or repair items by seaming, soldering, bolting, screwing, riveting, tacking, and spot welding.
- Meet appearance and strength standards, as well as critical tolerances.
- Pass a FRCSW administered certification skills examination.
- Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, protractors, snap ring, height, depth, dial and screw pitch gauges, squares, rulers, trammel points, and sine bars.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum experience or military experience as aircraft airframes or sheet metal mechanic.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be able to pass a NACI which could include a credit check.
- Must be able to pass a FRCSW administered certification skills examination.
- Must comply with all required trainings and other administrative functions required by the company and the customer.
- Must assist in maintaining NAMP Programs, ensure contract artisans follow Ground Operating Procedures, and ensure personnel comply with safety procedures.
Skills & Technology Used
- Analytical Thinking & Problem Solving: Possesses both analytical and interpersonal skills. Good problem solving, negotiation and organizational skills/techniques.
- Working knowledge with computer.
- Working knowledge with Advance Skill Management (ASM) or willing to learn the functions.
- To be able to perform research, a working knowledge with the following is preferred: electronic publications like Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM), knowledge in navigating NATEC website to access Technical Publications, service bulletins, technical publications, blueprints, IPB (Illustrated Parts Breakdown), MIM (Maintenance Instruction), LES (Local Engineering Specifications), LPS (Local Process Specifications) and TEI (Temporary Engineering Instructions).
- Business Partner/Effective Communicator: English language skills to communicate with customers. Strong communicator must be able to communicate clearly both in writing and orally. Ability to train others. Customer service oriented, detail focused, pro-active behavior, multi-task capability.
- Software: Microsoft Office Suite Excel Outlook SharePoint Personal computer, printer, copy machine and other general office equipment.
