Amentum is seeking a qualified Aircraft Mechanic II specialized in Line supervision to support U.S. Naval Air Station maintenance operations at NAS Whidbey Island. This role involves inspecting and performing organizational-level maintenance and modification on EA-18G aircraft, sub-systems, support equipment, and related weapons systems.
Responsibilities
- Service, repair, and inspect aircraft and aircraft engines to ensure serviceability.
- Repair and replace aircraft structures, landing gear, power plants, fuel systems (including cells, tanks, and fuel/metering control systems), and functional components using hand tools, power tools, rivet guns, and drills.
- Inspect and repair power plant (engine) malfunctions, including cracked components and oil leaks.
- Diagnose malfunctions, isolate causes, and correct breaks; test engine operation using testing equipment.
- Replace and repair damaged components using hand tools, gauges, and test equipment.
- Remove engine and major components from aircraft using hoists or other lifting devices; disassemble and inspect parts for wear, warping, or defects.
- Repair and replace defective engine components; reassemble and install engines in aircraft.
- Adjust, repair, or replace instruments, avionics, navigation, flight control, electrical/electronic, fuel/oil systems, and aircraft accessories.
- Perform aircraft services, including engine flush/cleaning, parts lubrication, and maintenance checks.
- Service engines and airframe components at flight line operations, making repairs short of overhaul to ensure safe operating conditions.
- Specialize in repair and modification of engines, structural components, precision repair, functional spare parts, and assemblies.
- Recommend revisions to maintenance procedures to improve efficiency and ensure quality workmanship.
- Provide scheduled and unscheduled organizational maintenance support.
- Inspect aircraft for tools and foreign objects that could pose risks to aircraft or aircrew.
- Certify that all maintenance performed by the team is correct and complete.
- Perform inspection, disassembly, repair, servicing, technical directive compliance, modification, assembly, surface finish removal, corrosion control, and preservation/de-preservation for aircraft and aeronautical equipment systems.
- Perform administrative duties, including preparing reports, maintaining logbooks, and managing records.
- Participate in emergency response drills, including firefighting, emergency reclamation, salvage, and aircraft movement drills.
- Use fall protection equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or directed by local directives.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five years of actual and recent aircraft organizational-level experience.
- Three years of F/A-18E/F/EA-18G experience.
- Three years of CDI qualification and leadership experience.
- F/A-18E/F/EA-18G fuel cell maintenance qualifications.
- F/A-18E/F/EA-18G engine operation certification.
- One-year commitment to the position upon selection.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex malfunctions and perform complex organizational-level maintenance for EA-18G aircraft.
- Experience inspecting aircraft, certifying Aircraft/Engine Logbook entries, and expertise in one or more of the following specialties:
- Propulsion/Engine and Fuel Systems, ARS PODs
- Airframe/Structural, Landing Gear, Launch/Arresting, Wing/Pylon Fold
- Hydraulic/Pneumatic and Mechanical Flight Control Systems
- Aviation Life Support Systems (ALSS)
- Power Distribution/Electrical Power, Instruments, Compass, Automatic Flight Control, and Lighting Systems
- Aircraft Armament
- Line
- Corrosion
- Thorough knowledge of technical publications related to aircraft, missile, or vehicle maintenance.
- Understanding of engine operations, theory of flight, rigging of flight controls, electrical/electronic systems, pneudraulic, and mechanical principles.
- Ability to read, interpret, and use manufacturers' manuals, service bulletins, blueprints, wiring/schematic diagrams, and data tables.
- Ability to inspect, repair, and operate ground support and auxiliary equipment.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.
- Ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance and meet physical/medical examination requirements.
- Active Secret clearance and ability to maintain facility credentials/authorization (U.S. citizenship required).
- Willingness to travel as required.
Work Environment
The work environment includes shop settings, aircraft hangars, flight lines, and shipboard locations with exposure to:
- Moderate to extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, and wind.
- Disagreeable fumes, cuts, bruises, and hazards from moving vehicles (e.g., forklifts, sweepers, tow vehicles, aircraft).
- Noisy, dusty, and dirty conditions.
- Moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration.
- Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, high places, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather, extreme cold, and electrical shock risks.
- Unsafe conditions, unmitigated hazards, and feedback on safety issues.
Physical demands include:
- Regularly standing, using hands, handling tools, and communicating.
- Frequently walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Occasionally sitting, climbing, balancing, tasting, or smelling.
- Lifting items weighing 40–45 pounds frequently and over 50 pounds occasionally.
- Working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
Pay
Hiring hourly rate of pay: $45.98 (set by Collective Bargaining Agreement).
- Current rate: $45.98/hour
- Rate on or around 1/1/2027: $47.36/hour
