Aircraft Flight Instructor

About the role

This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Air and Marine Operations, National Air Training Center (NATC) located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Responsibilities

• Instructing and evaluating student and AMO pilots in basic and advanced flight, instrument maneuvers, emergency procedures, human factors, cockpit resource management, and tactical day/night operations using forward looking infrared and night vision equipment.
• Providing initial aircraft training and annual recurrent training for AMO pilots in fixed-wing and/or rotor-wing aircraft.
• Conducting initial entry and annual standardization evaluations of AMO pilots, including testing and certifying aircraft airworthiness by assessing mechanical deficiencies and system functionality.
• Developing, planning, scheduling, implementing, and maintaining education and training programs for use within the department and external entities.
• Evaluating program safety and flight procedures, recommending corrective actions or additional training as needed.

• Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service.

• You may be required to pass a background investigation.

• Your conduct will be subject to the ethics rules applicable to all Executive Branch employees, and to CBP employees specifically, as well as the criminal conflict of interest statutes.

Qualifications

• Minimum eligibility requirements for positions in this occupation are based on possession of the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates and/or appropriate military ratings, meeting the applicable flight hour requirements, and possession of the knowledge and skills required for the position being filled.
• Flight Experience: Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in certain minimum flight hour requirements, including recency of flight experience.
• Medical Requirements: At the time of initial appointment, candidates for all pilot positions must possess a current first or second-class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations.

Pay

The starting salary for this position is $122,749.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $159,575.00 (GS-13, Step 10).
