About the role
The Aircraft Engine Mechanic/FEDS Operator uses current technical instructions to repair or replace worn, defective, or damaged aircraft engine parts. This role tests engine components and systems to ensure they are functioning correctly and uses testing equipment to diagnose and identify engine problems. The mechanic is responsible for disassembling and inspecting engine parts like turbine blades and cylinders for wear, warping, cracks, and leaks. This position assists in the preparation and installation of aircraft engines and the removal of engine systems and components. The engine mechanic may also be required to operate and evaluate engine systems with the use of an engine run cell.
Requirements
- FAA Powerplant License; if no A&P, shall have five (5) years of documented experience as a Flexible Engine Diagnostic System (FEDS) operator
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization (US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at the work location)
- Must possess own shadowed/etched Tools and Toolbox
- Possess good communication skills; be adaptable, diversified and capable of troubleshooting entire aircraft system
- Working knowledge of electrical, electronic, mechanical and associated systems principles to complete properly all probable work tasks
- Knowledge of Quality Control, Production and Supply procedures required to perform job assignment
- Able to properly use a variety of common hand tools and measuring devices such as gauges, torque wrenches and scales and test, measurement and diagnostic equipment related to specific aircraft models
- Able to determine when faulty systems or assemblies can be corrected through repair or replacement of new parts and the nature and extent of repair required
- Must have skill in reading, applying and interpreting technical data
Physical requirements and work environment
- Must be able to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
- Frequently lift parts and equipment up to 20 pounds; occasionally lift objects up to 50 pounds (most heavy lifting is accomplished through the use of mechanical devices)
- May work in Aircraft maintenance hangar or outside
- May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure
- May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft
- May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts
