About the role
The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) to highly-talented scientists. Fellows engage in ongoing NASA research projects using facility-class airborne high-spectral-resolution lidars (HSRLs).
Description
NASA Langley Research Center operates four facility-class airborne high-spectral-resolution lidars (HSRLs). These lidars have been deployed on over 40 field experiments focusing on atmospheric and ocean remote sensing, including process science, satellite validation, and remote sensing algorithm studies.
- Measurements include particulate backscatter and extinction.
- Implement HSRL technique at 532 nm and elastic backscatter lidar technique at 1064 nm.
- Polarization sensitive at both wavelengths.
- One lidar measures HSRL at 355 nm.
- Two lidars feature ozone-profiling capability via DIAL.
- One lidar features water vapor and methane column capabilities via DIAL and integrated path DIAL.
- Two lidars provide HSRL ocean-profiling capability.
- Includes measurements of chlorophyll fluorescence and CDOM.
- Data sets offer extensive opportunities for studying aerosols, clouds, plankton, and optical and microphysical properties.
- Collaborate with other sensors like the NASA GISS Research Scanning Polarimeter.
