About the role
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Air Interdiction Agents are skilled pilots who enforce aviation-based law enforcement operations. They detect, prevent, interdict, and apprehend terrorists, weapons, and other contraband attempting to enter the United States.
Responsibilities
- Conduct air patrol, surveillance, and pursuit activities related to the interdiction of smuggled contraband.
- Monitor suspect persons, vehicles, or vessels engaged in illegal activities.
- Collect, refine, and analyze strategic and tactical intelligence.
- Support search and rescue and humanitarian efforts.
Requirements
- A current FAA Commercial or ATP Pilot Certification with one of the following ratings: Dual Rated, Airplane, Helicopter.
- At least 1500 flight hours, with up to 500 hours waived, and 250 hours as a Pilot-in-Command, 75 hours as an Instrument pilot, and 75 hours as a Night pilot.
- FAA Class 2 medical required within the last 12 months.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with at least 3 years of primary U.S. residency.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of specialized professional aviation experience.
- Experience flying as a Pilot-in-Command or sole manipulator in an airplane and helicopter.
- Evaluating information rapidly and making decisions during in-flight operations.
- Developing strategies and coordinating aircraft and ground assets.
- Using information systems and databases to conduct information surveys, queries, update files, and disseminate information.

Pay
The starting salary for an Air Interdiction Agent ranges from $120,636 to $163,996 annually, depending on the duty location and grade level.
Schedule
Duty locations are based on operational requirements and mission needs, and applicants must be willing to work at any selected location.
