Air Interdiction Agent
About the role
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Air and Marine Operations (AMO) seeks skilled pilots for the role of Air Interdiction Agent (AIA). This position offers a competitive salary range of $88,509 - $163,996 annually, depending on experience and duty location. New hires may be eligible for a one-time Recruitment Incentive of $10,000 after completing the Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy (FLETC).
Duties And Responsibilities
- Conducting air patrol, surveillance, and pursuit activities related to the interdiction of smuggled contraband via land vehicles, aircraft, or vessels.
- Monitoring behavior patterns and activities of suspect persons, vehicles, or vessels believed to be engaged in illegal activities.
- Collecting, refining, and analyzing strategic and tactical intelligence.
- Supporting search and rescue and humanitarian efforts.
Qualifications
- Certification & Ratings: Current FAA Commercial or ATP Pilot Certification with dual-rated or airplane-rated ratings, including instrument ratings.
- Flight Hours: At least 1500 flight hours, with up to 500 hours waived, and 250 hours as a Pilot-in-Command, 75 hours instrument, and 75 hours night flying.
- Medical: FAA Class 2 medical required within the last 12 months.
- Age Requirement: Maximum age of 40 for original appointment, subject to exceptions for veteran preference and temporary increases.

Pay
The starting salary includes Special Salary Rate (SSR), Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP), Recruitment Incentive, and Retention Incentive. The career ladder position has grades GS-11, GS-12, and GS-13, with automatic promotions after 52 weeks at each grade level.
Schedule
Duty locations are based on operational requirements and mission needs, including Southeast Region (Homestead, FL and CAMB: Aguadilla, PR), Southwest Region (Tucson and Yuma, AZ; San Diego, CA; El Paso, Laredo, and McAllen, TX), and NASOC UAS locations (Sierra Vista, AZ; San Angelo, TX).
