Air Interdiction Agent

About the role

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking skilled pilots for the Air Interdiction Agent (AIA) position. This role involves aviation-based law enforcement operations to detect, prevent, interdict, and apprehend terrorists, terrorist weapons, and other contraband and persons attempting to illegally enter or attack the United States.

Responsibilities

• Conducting air patrol, surveillance, and pursuit activities related to the interdiction of smuggled contraband via land vehicles, aircraft, or vessels.
• Making rapid decisions and evaluating information during in-flight operations.
• Developing and coordinating strategies involving aircraft and ground assets.
• Using information systems and databases to conduct information surveys, queries, update files, and disseminate information.

Requirements

• A current FAA Commercial or ATP Pilot Certification with one of the following ratings: Dual Rated (Airplane and Rotorcraft Helicopter with instrument rating) or Airplane Rated (Airplane with instrument rating).
• At least 1500 flight hours, with up to 500 hours waived, and 250 hours as a Pilot-in-Command, 75 hours as an Instrument pilot, and 75 hours as a Night pilot.
• An FAA Class 2 medical certificate within the last 12 months.
• Provisional age waiver for veterans with qualifying service.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized professional aviation experience performing duties such as flying as a Pilot-in-Command or sole manipulator in an airplane and helicopter in all environments of flight.
• Experience in developing strategies and coordinating aircraft and ground assets.
• Ability to evaluate information rapidly and make prompt decisions during in-flight operations.

Salary ranges for the first three years at authorized duty locations are provided in the table below:

Schedule

Positions are offered based on operational requirements, mission requirements, and critical agency hiring needs. You must be willing to work at any duty location within the selected region, including but not limited to Homestead, FL; Aguadilla, PR; Tucson, Yuma, San Diego, El Paso, Laredo, McAllen, and Sierra Vista, AZ; and NASOC UAS sites: Sierra Vista, AZ; San Angelo, TX.
